North Carolina State University
North Carolina State University offers alternative licensure programs that focus on preparing students to become licensed at the middle and high school levels. These programs include the North Carolina Teachers of Excellence for All Children (NC TEACH), Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT), Traditional Lateral Entry or Licensure Only and Health Occupations.
In the NC TEACH program, classes are taken at nights and on the weekends and are more suited to students who already hold a degree in a major other an education. While this program doesn't result in a degree, students can become licensed to teach at the K-12, middle school or high school levels in such areas as English, Spanish, French, science, math and social studies. NC TEACH is offered on campus only.
The MAT program is a hybrid program suited to students looking to earn a master's degree and a teacher's license. Students will get the chance to complete a semester of student teaching before entering the workforce. Licensure areas include elementary, special, English, social studies, technology, science, middle grades and math education.
Traditional Lateral Entry and Health Occupations
The traditional lateral entry program prepares students for licensure in fields such as technology, business, marketing, and agriculture and extension education. Training takes place via the classroom, Internet and through field study. The health occupations program is offered in collaboration with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and offers classes that lead to licensure in health occupations.

Wake Technical Community College
Wake Technical Community College has partnered with North Carolina State University to offer a lateral entry certificate program aimed at preparing graduates for licensure at the middle and high school levels.
Training for the 27-hour program is split between the two schools, with the majority of the training taking place at Wake Technical Community College. Coursework focuses on studies of English, mathematics, social studies, science, business, special education and art. Classes are offered nights, weekends, online or partially on campus and partially online. Full-time students are able to complete the program in as little as two semesters.
