Allen Park Community School's Alternative Programs

The Allen Park Community School, located in Allen Park, Michigan, is an alternative school that serves high school students ages 14-19 in the Wayne County area. Accredited by the North Central Association, its alternative program takes a multi-disciplinary approach and provides opportunities for student development through individualized instruction.

Alternative Training and Educational Diplomas

The graduation requirements for alternative schools in Michigan are similar to those of traditional high schools. In order to graduate from Allen Park Community School, students must complete a minimum of 22 credits over four years of study. Students are required to take computer education, math, English, physical education, science and social studies classes as well as electives.

Students may enroll in career and technical education programs and earn elective credit through a work co-op agreement. As an alternative school, Allen Park Community School requires students to complete community service hours and participate in an educational support group each semester to build positive life skills.

Casman Alternative Academy's Programs

Casman Alternative Academy serves students in the grades of 7-12 in Manistee County, located in west-central Michigan. The school is one of only a dozen in the state to offer online courses that allow students to earn credits.

Alternative Training and Educational Diplomas

Students at Casman Academy work towards a high school diploma, but with a continual focus on achieving student-specific goals. As set forth by state of Michigan requirements, students must complete courses in language arts, history and geography, algebra, economics, civics, economics, biology and physics. Numerous extracurricular activities are available for students, including athletic programs. Community service is encouraged and students and the community are collaborating on a long-term park building project.
