California State University - Long Beach
California State University - Long Beach, which has the largest enrollment of the 23-member California State University (CSU) system, is about 11 miles southwest of Anaheim. Founded in 1949 as Los Angles - Orange County State College, the school had several name changes until 1972, when it was chartered as a university under its current name. The 4-year university sits on 320 acres near the ocean with more than 80 buildings scattered throughout its campus. CSU - Long Beach offers certificates as well as bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in areas of study including aerospace manufacturing, educational leadership, museum studies, emergency services administration, zoology, statistics and nutritional science. In its 2010 rankings, U.S. News & World Report named CSU - Long Beach as the fourth best public master's university in the West; the school has been in the top five spot from 2005-2010.

California State University - Fullerton
Just four miles north of Anaheim is the 236-acre campus of California State University - Fullerton. Established in 1957 as Orange County State College, the school was named California State University - Fullerton in 1972. Its eight colleges offer more than 100 bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree programs as well as credentialing and certification programs. Students can choose among programs including cell and developmental biology, anthropology, athletic training, software engineering, public administration and counseling. In its 2010 rankings, U.S. News & World Report designated the 4-year university as the eighth best public university in the West and its nurse anesthesiologist graduate program as tenth best in the country.

East Los Angeles College in Monterey Park, CA
East Los Angeles College is 18 miles northwest of Anaheim and offers students associate's degree and certificate programs. It is one of the nine schools within the Los Angeles Community College District, the largest community college system in the country with more than 250,000 students enrolled annually. East Los Angeles College reports that it issued more diplomas to Hispanics in the 2000s than any other California-based community college. Academic and certificate programs are available in fields such as architecture, mathematics, electronics, fire technology, real estate, photography, development communications and chemistry.
