The field of architecture provides its professionals with a variety of career opportunities, from structural drafting to landscape design. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), www.bls.gov, architects must be registered or licensed by the states in which they work before they can call themselves by the term architect. This certification requires a professional degree in the field. Fortunately, one pursuing an education in architecture may be afforded a variety of degree options. Three types of professional architecture degrees are available through schools, colleges and universities. The majority of all architectural degrees are granted by 5-year Bachelor of Architecture programs, intended for with no previous architectural training. In addition, many professional schools may offer 2-year Master of Architecture programs for students with pre-professional undergraduate degrees in architecture or related areas or 3 to 4-year Master of Architecture programs for students with degree in other disciplines.
