Bachelor of Science (BS): Administration of Justice Degree Overview
A Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Administration of Justice program prepares a student for a number of jobs in criminal justice and public administration. Students learn about law enforcement, criminology and corrections administration as well as policies and processes of law across policing and judicial agencies. Graduates can find a wide variety of leadership careers within the criminal justice system or opt to pursue a law school or graduate degree.
Bachelor of Science in Administration of Justice
These programs provide an introduction to the criminal justice system, including a focus on the responsibilities and current challenges of each organization, such as corrections, law enforcement and homeland security. Students gain an understanding of justice systems, management procedures and social control. Administration of justice degree programs can be found under a number of different departments, including justice administration and public affairs. Some of these 4-year degree programs provide internship opportunities that offer additional real-world experience. Generally, a high school diploma or GED is required to apply to an administration of justice program.
Course Topics
Students take general education coursework along with a heavy concentration of courses in the social sciences area, such as political science, American politics, history and government. Administration of justice coursework discusses the history and critical issues facing law enforcement, the court system and corrections. Some examples include:
