The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) categorizes web developers within a broader group that also includes computer network architects and information security analysts. From 2010-2020, the BLS predicted that this group of professionals would see a 22% increase in employment, which is faster than the average for all occupations. This was attributed to a number of factors, including the growth of online purchasing and the contribution that web developers make to the use of websites for sales and marketing.
In May 2011, the BLS stated that this group earned a median annual salary of about $78,000. Web developers in particular were reported to have earned between $61,000 and $99,000 in 2012, according to Robert Half Technology.
Continuing Education Information
According to the BLS, web developers may be qualified for work with a high school diploma, an associate degree or a bachelor's degree. However, web development options at the master's degree level may be available.
