Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Stanford University are among the highly ranked schools that offer undergraduate and graduate degree programs in biomechanical engineering. MIT is an East Coast school known for its engineering programs. Stanford is often ranked just below MIT and offers programs on the West Coast.
1. Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge
Massachusetts Institute of Technology has consistently received top rankings from U.S. News & World Report, including the number one spot in 2011 for best engineering programs and sixth spot for biomedical or bioengineering graduate programs. The School of Engineering is among five schools and one college that make up MIT. Within the biological engineering and mechanical engineering programs, students have the opportunity to study biomechanical engineering at either the undergraduate or graduate level.
2. Stanford University in California
U.S. News & World Report ranked Stanford University number two in its 2011 best engineering schools list, and the school tied for eighth for its bioengineering and biomedical programs. Stanford has seven schools as well as a continuing studies department that offer bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree programs. The Engineering School offers a biomechanical engineering (BME) program, which is a partnership between the Departments of Mechanical Engineering and Bioengineering. Bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees are available within the BME program.
