Founded in 1865, Cornell University (CU) was the first university to award a degree in veterinary medicine. The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences offers a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Animal Science, where students create their own specialties in dairy, animal biology or farm management, among others. Curriculum includes domestic animal welfare, reproduction, endocrinology and dairy production.

The University of California in Davis (UC-Davis) is located in the Bay Area and was named the 39th best national university for 2011 by U.S. News & World Report.
