1. Amherst College in Massachusetts

Amherst College is a small liberal arts school located in western Massachusetts. In 1973, the college was the first to offer an undergraduate degree in neuroscience. The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Neuroscience blends courses in chemistry, biology, physics, psychology, math and computer science. Topics include hormones and behavior, psychopharmacology, genome biology and immunology.

Students may participate in the senior honors program and assist with faculty research projects at the nearby University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Amherst College was ranked the second best liberal arts college in 2011 by U.S. News & World Report.

2. Columbia University in the City of New York

Columbia University (CU) was founded in 1754 as King's College at a schoolhouse in lower Manhattan. In 1896, the school's name was changed and the campus moved to upper Manhattan. CU was named the fourth best national university by U.S. News & World Report in 2011.

The Columbia College at CU offers a B.A. in Neuroscience and Behavior, which involves coursework from the psychology and biological sciences departments. A Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Neuroscience and Behavior is also available through the School of General Studies at CU. Professional courses for both degree programs are the same. Classes include social factors in psychobiology, cognition, biotechnology and proteomics.
