The University of Illinois at Chicago

The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) is a public, 4-year research university. The University of Chicago's Medical Campus dates back to 1859, when it was founded by a group of Chicago pharmacists. It was the first pharmacy school west of the Allegheny Mountains in the U.S. and only the sixth in the nation. Since then, UIC has expanded to enroll nearly 17,000 undergraduates and close to 10,000 professional and graduate students in many subjects.

The Department of Biomedical and Health Information Sciences trains students on how to create medical, technological and financial information and use this information to aid in health care. The department focuses on the most current technology and theories, research and partnerships with health care facilities in the Chicago area. Its faculty has won state and national awards. UIC's health informatics program was the first in the U.S. to include organizational issues in its curriculum. This interdisciplinary department offers students instruction in fields such as clinical science, computer science and business practices.
