Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

In 2010, Carnegie Mellon University was one of the four schools ranked 1st by U.S. News and World Report for computer science. The Princeton Review called the school one of the best colleges in the region.

Carnegie Mellon University's graduate programs offer professional and research tracks allowing students to pursue an education that suits their interests. In addition to computer science majors, students interested in computer networking can pursue a Master of Science in Information Networking. Classes offered include computer networks, embedded systems fundamentals, fundamentals of telecommunications, packet switching, operating system design and distributed systems.

University of California-Berkeley

The Berkley campus of the University of California was also ranked 1st for computer science by U.S. News and World Report; it was ranked as the 22nd best university in the nation, overall. This school was referred to as one of the best Western colleges by The Princeton Review.

The electrical and computer engineering program here offers a communications, networks and systems option at the undergraduate level. This program features a mixture of theory and practical work.
