Colleges with Food Marketing Programs: How to Choose
Food marketing programs are ideal for individuals interested in advertising and promotional careers in the food industry. Programs prepare students for positions in food sales, marketing, retailing and brand management.
Selecting a Food Marketing School
Food marketing programs teach students to market agricultural products and packaged goods to businesses and consumers, with classes in accounting, advertising, market research and consumer behavior. The majority of schools offer optional internships in diverse food marketing settings, including packing and distribution plants, sales and marketing firms, advertising agencies and restaurants. A few schools require participation in the internship program. Students who work full-time may want to consider the internship requirements when looking into schools. Some colleges offer cooperative education programs, which combine classroom instruction with practical work experience.
All schools offer job placement assistance; however, a few also offer tailored career fairs or industry-specific conferences. Since food marketing degree programs are connected to a specific industry, students should find out which corporations a school has built relationships with to evaluate future career placement opportunities.
To augment the cost of tuition and fees, many schools offer scholarship opportunities. Schools that have dedicated food marketing programs sometimes offer competitive scholarship programs with funds covering partial or full tuition and sometimes including a stipend for living expenses. There are also schools that waive non-resident restrictions, enabling out of state students to pay the same fees as residents.
