The Community College of Baltimore County

  • 18:1 student-to-faculty ratio
  • Many programs prepares students to take industry certification exams
  • Classroom instruction accompanied by hands-on lab exercises

In 1998, Maryland legislators consolidated three separate colleges into one system, the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC). Today, the college includes three campuses and three extension centers spread across the city of Baltimore and enrolls more than 23,000 students. CCBC is composed of seven academic schools, including the School of Applied and Information Technology. That school houses several network technology programs which include introductory courses in computer repair.

One option is an A+ certificate program that prepares students for professional computer repair certification. Students first complete a computer introduction course before moving into classes that focus on how computers and systems operate. In a course on computer operation and repair, they learn how a computer works and what the major parts are. Students also learn to use diagnostic tools to fix problems. This school also offers that computer repair course as part of several 2-year programs that result in an Associate of Applied Science degree. Students can choose from degrees in general network technology, Cisco, IT support, Red Hat Linux and Microsoft. The IT support curriculum is also available as a certificate program.
