The Community College of Baltimore County
In 1998, Maryland legislators consolidated three separate colleges into one system, the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC). Today, the college includes three campuses and three extension centers spread across the city of Baltimore. In Fall 2010, the school enrolled 72,235 students in credit and non-credit courses, making it the largest school by student enrollment in the state. Transfer agreements are in place with five colleges and universities in Maryland. In 2011 rankings, Community College Week magazine placed CCBC 67th in its list of the top 100 associate degree-producing schools The community college is accredited through the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
CCBC is composed of seven academic schools, including the School of Applied and Information Technology. That school houses a network technology program which in turn features a certificate program that prepares students for professional computer repair certification through CompTIA. In 2010, the school awarded 12 A+ Computer Repair certificates, down from a 5-year high of 19 in 2008.

A+ Computer Repair Certificate
Students in this program learn the difference between data and information while also exploring how computers have impacted society. They first complete a computer introduction course before moving into classes that focus on how computers and systems operate. In a course on computer operation and repair, they learn how a computer works and what the major parts are. Students also learn to use diagnostic tools to fix problems. Other required courses cover computer networking and the relationship between hardware and software. Two required courses prepare students to take certification tests for CompTIA A+. A student may be required to complete a course on transitioning into college, if they have not taken college courses in the past. This certificate requires completion of 14-15 credit hours.
