Cyber Security Programs
Bachelor of Science in Computer Security and Information Assurance
The Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology accredits this Bachelor of Science (B.S.) program, which has a core focus on computers, science and math. It's for those who want to become computer security professionals or go to graduate school in computer science. Students explore cryptography, authentication, intrusion detection and network worms. The curriculum consists series of three capstone projects culminating in a written report and presentation.
Bachelor of Arts in Computer Security and Information Assurance
For students with multiple interests, the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) program combines computer science with another major, such as business or one of the natural sciences. Participants take the same core and specialized courses as in the B.S. program, becoming well versed in security risks and protections for wireless, local and global systems. They must also complete an independent thesis project.
Graduate Certificate in Computer Security and Information Assurance
Designed for working computer science professionals, this program allows students to get a comprehensive education without satisfying the master's degree program. Admission requirements include a bachelor's degree, pre-calculus math and a background in computer science. Participants choose four courses from among advanced computer security topics.
Master of Science in Computer Security and Information Assurance
In addition to core topics in computer architectures and software paradigms, students delve into advanced work in security policies, protocols and cryptography. Participation in research is encouraged; ongoing projects include information warfare and computer forensics. An additional option is to earn a 4-year B.S. or B.A., then take a fifth year to complete a master's degree program; admission to the 5-year program is selective.
Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Security and Information Assurance
Those interested primarily in computer science research may apply to this program. Ongoing projects examine information policy, network security, forensics and information warfare as they relate to private and governmental systems protection. Degree completion requirements include a dissertation, colloquium attendance and a published research paper.
