Environmental Studies Schools and Programs
Environmental studies encompass a wide variety of environmental science, including botany, environmental laws and policies, atmosphere and climatology. Graduates of such programs may work to advocate for, conserve, educate about and research the environment. How to Select an Environmental Studies School
Environmental studies cover a broad subject area. Students may find a variety of concentration options and educational tracks within prospective programs. Students with specific interests may enroll in programs that offer environmental engineering, environmental policy, resources management, sustainability and land use concentrations. Some programs may also allow students to complete multiple concentrations, allowing for a more diverse educational experience.
Students interested in pursuing specific areas of environmental studies, such as marine biology, may consider enrolling in programs adjacent to the appropriate climate. Schools offering international experiences may also be useful in this regard. Distance education programs are commonly available through environmental programs, and could be well suited to students pursuing less regionally specific topics in the field. Associate's Degree in Environmental Studies
Associate's degree programs in environmental studies include general education courses and basic science courses. Work done in an associate's degree program can usually transfer to a bachelor's degree program. Common courses include:

Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Studies
Bachelor's degree programs in environmental studies may qualify students for employment or offer preparation for master's degree programs. Students may be required to complete an internship and senior research project.
Master's Degree in Environmental Studies
The concentration area a student chooses typically dictates the curriculum of an environmental studies master's degree program. Hands-on field experiences may be included, as well as independent research projects. A master's thesis is commonly a required part of the coursework.
Ph.D. in Environmental Studies
Ph.D. programs in environmental studies are largely research-based, commonly resulting in a dissertation of the student's original findings. A Ph.D. program may take several years to complete.
