GED FAQs: What if I'm Not Happy With My GED Score?
You took the GED and passed, but aren't happy with your performance. While GED guidelines for retaking the exam are strict, it is not impossible! Read this article to learn what you must do to qualify for a retake!
You spent hours, days, even weeks prepping for the GED. Test day finally came, and you passed! Unfortunately, you don't feel your score represents all that you've learned. If you're simply unhappy with the score you've received, it's only natural to consider retaking the exam. Beware, however, that most states have very strict retake policies, and not everyone qualifies. While it's best to check with your state's policies, there are some policies that are relatively universal.
Generally, you cannot simply retake the GED because you are unhappy with your score, even if you only hope to improve your performance in one section. Most states stipulate that you are exempt from this rule if, and only if, a college or employer requires you retake the exam. Typically, this requires you to fill out special paperwork and present some sort of written evidence that not retaking the exam will burden either your career or educational efforts. Once again, it is best to contact your state's department of education for specific policies and procedures.
