The University of South Florida

The University of South Florida is recognized by the Carnegie Institute as a very high research activity institution. It is a public school and, in 2010, offered over 200 degree programs and enrolled more than 40,000 students. In that same year, it had a student-to-faculty ratio of 27:1. Situated on approximately 1,500 acres, the university has 13 colleges. The university is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. In 2011, The Princeton Review ranked it one of the 'Best Southeastern Colleges' (theprincetonreview.com) and U.S. News and World Report ranked it No. 183 among national universities.

The College of Public Health is home to five departments, and in 2010, enrolled approximately 600 students. The college is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health. It offers a Master of Health Administration (MHA) and a Master of Public Health (MPH) in Public Health Administration degree program through its Department of Health Policy and Management.

Health Administration Degree Programs

Master of Health Administration

This program consists of 56 credit hours of study. It focuses on four areas: economics and financial management, management science and technology, leadership and public policy. Students learn about health law and ethics, policy analysis, management techniques and health care services organization. Classes cover occupational health, insurance, financial accounting, health services management and healthcare politics. Students also complete a field experience during their final year of study.

Master of Public Health in Public Health Administration

This program includes 44 credit hours of study and a field experience. It covers policy analysis and development, financial analysis and accounting methods, public health research, healthcare marketing techniques, quality management and international healthcare systems. Students complete a capstone project and a field experience prior to graduation, and have five years to complete the program. Online courses are available for the MPH program.
