Interior Design Programs
Associate of Science in Interior Design
Featuring in computer design technology and design studio courses, this 2-year program gives students a well-rounded background in interior design. Core concepts include aesthetics, environmental responsibility, safety, business and public awareness. Hand drafting and 3-D computer-aided design techniques are used to explore both residential and commercial interiors while considering building and safety regulations. Through design projects, students learn to work independently and in collaboration, incorporating design history, textiles, lighting, color and space.
Upon graduation, students may seek work in interior design or architectural companies as assistants, sales representatives or CAD technicians. Following four years of practical experience, they will be eligible to take the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) exam to become certified as a designer.
Bachelor of Science in Interior Design
This bachelor's degree program shares the associate degree curriculum for the first two years. Students then learn advanced knowledge of interior design and demonstrate their skills. By taking an original design project through its stages, from conception to client presentation, students have the opportunity to display their technical skills, practice problem-solving and work as peers among professionals. Studio topics include lighting, healthcare facility design and sustainable technologies. Juniors may apply for a 200-hour internship, which culminates in a written report. All students must complete a capstone project and a senior thesis to graduate.
Graduates may find many niches in their new profession, including interior designer, space planner, product designer and facility manager. They are eligible to take the NCIDQ certification exam after two years of professional work.
