Italian Language Degrees by Distance Learning: Program Overviews
Through online degree programs in Italian, students learn to speak, read and write in Italian. These courses can lead to a Bachelor of Arts degree in Italian and graduates can find careers as translators, interpreters or travel agents.
Online bachelor's degree programs in the Italian language are extremely rare to nonexistent. It's much more common for colleges and universities to offer courses in Italian online, not as part of a degree program, but which can sometimes count toward college credit. Those interested in studying Italian should consider an on-campus bachelor's degree program instead.
Bachelor of Arts in Italian
Through bachelor's degree programs in Italian, students study concepts related to the Italian language and its history and culture. Students learn to speak in grammatically correct phrases and learning about the country's geography, cultural practices and film studies. Students don't need any prior experience in Italian, but they do need to have a high school diploma or its GED equivalent. A bachelor's degree program in Italian takes about four years to complete.

Conversational Italian Course
This advanced Italian course is for students who want to obtain fluency in the language. Students learn to progress beyond simple conversation and into sharing short stories, discussing movies and books, ideas and cultural experiences.
Italian Literature Course
Literature courses in Italian allow students to study literature from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance through modern times. They read poetry, theatrical pieces, novels and short stories.
Career Information for Graduates
Graduates from a degree program in Italian could find careers as management analysts, interpreters, translators or travel agents. According to the May 2012 BLS report (www.bls.gov), translators and interpreters earned a median annual salary of $45,430 and travel agents made $34,600. The demand for travel agents is expected to grow by ten percent between 2010 and 2020, which is about as fast as the average for all occupations, but the demand for translators and interpreters is expected to grow by over 42%, much faster than the average for all occupations.
Continuing Education Information
After completing a bachelor's degree program in Italian, students can continue their studies to earn a master's degree in the field, although these are not often available online. Students can also pursue a master's degree in interpretation and translation, which are difficult to find online. They can earn a Master of Business Administration, many of which are available online.
