As computer networking and Internet technologies continue to expand, so will demand for computer applications software engineers. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (www.bls.gov) overall employment for computer software engineers is expected to grow 32% between 2008 and 2018. Additionally, with rapidly evolving technologies, such as mobile technology and wireless capabilities, the demand for new software products is expected to create 295,000 new jobs (www.bls.gov).

However, computer programming jobs are expected to decline by 3% from 2008-20018. This decline is due to offshore outsourcing, advances in programming technologies and the growing number of users who can write their own programs.
