Life strategy coaches are qualified to help clients attain their personal and professional goals through a process of active listening, clear communication and goal-setting. Life coach credentials can be obtained through private coaching schools or by completing a graduate-level certificate program.

Life Strategy Coach Education Requirements

Life coach training programs require the completion of education courses and a certain number of hours coaching clients and with a life coach mentor. Courses for obtaining life coach credentials usually include topics in building trust, listening, communicating in a clear and direct manner, asking empowering questions, setting goals and managing accountability. A certificate in life coaching or executive coaching can also be obtained as part of a graduate program in psychology or business. Executive life coaching certificates require the completion of courses in management and supervisory skills, communication, leadership and workplace performance.

The International Coach Federation (ICF) offers various credentials for life coaches. ICF offers the credential Associate Certified Coach, which requires the completion of 100 coaching hours with a minimum of eight clients. A Professional Certified Coach must complete 750 hours of coaching and work with at least 25 clients. Finally, a Master Certified Coach must have 35 clients and complete 2,500 hours of coaching.

Life Strategy Coach Career Information

Life coaches work in collaboration with clients to help them achieve their personal aspirations or career goals. They help clients to create a vision and overcome obstacles that block achievement of goals. Though many therapists are also certified life coaches, life coaching is not a form of therapy. Therapy generally focuses on healing while life coaching concentrates on the attainment of specified goals.

Individuals can work chiefly as life coaches or they can provide coaching as an adjunct to counseling, ministry or business management. Life coaches work one-on-one with clients in person, by phone or via the Internet. They can also work with organizations to help set and accomplish organizational goals.

In 2013, life coaches reportedly earned a starting salary of approximately $23,000-$39,000 and after 10 years, their salary rose to approximately $35,000-$118,000, according to PayScale.com.
