Family Finance at Utah State University
Students taking this course will learn effective family financial planning and have the chance to evaluate health, auto, home and disability insurance. The coursework includes risk factor analysis, studies of umbrella policies and a strong emphasis on the need for life insurance. The 14 lessons are available as PDFs, and students are provided with links to websites that are mentioned. Three books are recommended as supplemental reading.
Financial Markets at Yale University
This course on the finance industry features a lecture on insurance in the context of financial instruments and institutions. Investments, banking, risk and real estate are points of emphasis. Students can view video lectures and utilize links to supplemental resources. Tests and answers are included with the course materials. Two textbooks are required and there is an extensive list of recommended reading, some with links provided.
Insurance from the Colorado Department of Higher Education
This course is offered by the Colorado Department of Higher Education's Education Cents program, with input from the Colorado Financial Planning Association. Through written and video lessons, students look at the various types of insurance, including life and auto, and learn how to choose a company. A quiz is included so students can assess what they've learned.
Managed Care and Health Insurance at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health
This course covers managed care, ethical issues, risk, public policy and financial issues. Regulation and evaluation of insurance programs, including Medicare, Medicaid and HMOs, are explored, as are methods for assessing the quality and accountability of insurance programs.
