Top Behavior Analysts Programs and Schools

1. Auburn University in Auburn Alabama

Auburn University, established in 1856, offers more than 140 majors and nearly 300 student clubs and organizations. The Princeton Review named Auburn on its 2012 list of 'The Best 376 Colleges' in the nation. Auburn offers programs in education, science and veterinary medicine, among others. Auburn University's Department of Psychology offers an M.S. in Applied Behavior Analysis in Developmental Disabilities. The program prepares students to take the Behavior Analysis Certification Board exam in order to become board certified as behavior analysts. Students take courses in areas such as behavioral pharmacology and applied psychology and work in an off-site training program. Possible settings include preschools with children who have developmental disabilities or in-home training for foster families.

2. Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI

Western Michigan University, (WMU) one of Michigan's largest educational institutions for higher education, offers programs in management, education, art and health. U.S. News and World Report ranked WMU 100th on its 2012 list of top public schools in the nation. WMU offers an M.A. and a Ph.D. in Behavior Analysis. Both programs offer specializations in areas such as behavioral medicine and developmental disabilities. The M.A. program combines coursework with research, in order to prepare students to work in mental health, educational and government settings. The Ph.D. program offers additional research and training opportunities, in order to prepare students for positions in teaching or human services.

3. California State University, Sacramento

California State University, Sacramento, also known as Sacramento State, offers programs to around 27,000 students. U.S. News and World Report ranked the university 67th on its 2012 list of regional universities in the West. Sacramento State offers a Master of Arts in Psychology with a specialization in applied behavior analysis. In this program, students study the principles and concepts of behavior analysis and take courses in behavioral problem assessment, experimental analysis and experimental design. Clinical training is provided at locations such as autism centers and children's hospitals.
