Many marketing assistants are also seen as go-betweens who facilitate inter-departmental communication.

The minimum education requirement for a marketing assistant is a high school diploma, though some employers may require an associate's degree. A bachelor's degree opens the possibility of promotion into a marketing manager. Marketing assistants apply a broad skill set to their varied roles and duties. Organizational ability is a must, and successful marketing assistants are also able to multi-task and switch between duties with little trouble. Since this position is often used as a liaison between corporate departments, solid communication skills are favored. A familiarity with Microsoft Office is also encouraged for the clerical and administrative tasks.
