George Washington University

Comprised of three campuses located in the Foggy Bottom and Mount Vernon areas of DC and in Ashburn, VA, George Washington University (GW) is the largest university in the area. It boasts more than 2,000,000 volumes within its library system, including rare book collections housed within the Folger Shakespeare Library. George Washington University's School of Business offers a wide variety of business degrees. It is comprised of nine academic departments. These academic departments focus on tourism and hospitality management, international business, information systems, decision sciences, finance, management, accountancy, public policy and marketing. The marketing department supports student involvement in both the American Marketing Association and the Capital Ad Club, two student organizations that help with networking and finding jobs upon graduation.

Bachelor of Business Administration with a Concentration in Marketing

This program teaches students to identify customer needs and wants, design products and use strategic planning to successfully sell produces to desired markets. Business courses include organizational behavior, economics, accounting and marketing management. Marketing specific courses include sales and salesmanship, advertising, marketing research and consumer behavior.

Master of Business Administration with a Concentration in Marketing

This program can be taken either full-time or part-time and usually takes 2-5 years to complete. Areas of study include business-to-business marketing, marketing research and information systems, brand management and promotion, business-to-consumer marketing and marketing of services. Marketing courses include buyer behavior, electronic marketing, strategic brand management and advertising.

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Business Administration with a Concentration in Marketing

This program is designed for students who wish to teach marketing at the university level. The key areas of emphasis are marketing strategy, international marketing, consumer behavior, social marketing and public policy, services marketing and customer relationship management. Students complete core courses on topics like research methods and microeconomics in their first year of the program. Requirements include a qualifying exam, research papers, evaluations and a dissertation.
