About National University

Established in 1971, National University is a private, non-profit university. It's the second largest institution of its kind in California. National University's main campus is in La Jolla, just over 13 miles from downtown San Diego, but the university has additional locations all over San Diego County. It also has a number of regional campuses throughout California, as well as elsewhere in the country.

Academics

With five schools and one college, National University offers students about 150 undergraduate and graduate degree programs and more than 50 certificate or credential programs. Also catering to online learners, National University offers more than 70 undergraduate and graduate online degree programs. According to Diverse Issues in Higher Education, National University confers more master's degrees in education to ethnic minority students than any other college or university in the state. Additionally, the university ranks in the national top ten annually for awarding master's degrees to women as of 2012. In 2011-2012, the most popular associate's degree program was general studies. The registered nursing program awarded the most bachelor's degrees. Teacher education was the most popular master's degree program, and the most popular post-baccalaureate certificate program was in special education.

Admissions

Students can apply and begin to take classes any month of the year. Applications can be submitted electronically and must include a high school transcript or college transcript, if a student is transferring from another accredited college or university. Students must also complete placement exams in math and English. There may be additional admissions requirements for individual programs.

Tuition & Financial Aid

The total cost to attend National University in 2012-2013 came to more than $25,000. This included tuition, fees, books, supplies, and off-campus housing costs. To help offset these costs, the school offers a variety of scholarships, based on academic performance or military service. National University also provides services to help students apply for available federal loan or grant money.
