About Nova Southeastern University
Nova Southeastern University (NSU) is a private, not-for-profit university. It is the eighth largest university of this type in the nation and has a 300-acre main campus located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This campus is centrally located near area attractions, such as Fort Lauderdale Beach, South Beach, and downtown Miami.
NSU began as Nova University of Advanced Technology in 1964 and officially became Nova Southeastern University in 1994. Its first off-campus learning programs began in 1972, and it now offers extensive distance-learning and online course options, including a variety of degree programs.
The university oversees 20 health care centers in the counties of Miami-Dade and Broward, serving an approximate 250,000 patients in 2010. Services include medical care, dental care, and health education.
NSU has 18 colleges and schools, including the College of Pharmacy, Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences, and the University School. Students can find more than 100 degree programs, and several of its undergraduate degree programs and many of its graduate degree programs are available online. Supplementing its online course offerings are NSU's 8 off-campus sites, where students can take courses and participate in several degree programs. There are 7 off-campus sites throughout the state of Florida, and an additional off-campus site in Nassau, Bahamas.
Class offerings are flexible at NSU, allowing students to choose a traditional daytime schedule or evening classes. The average class size is 22 students.
The application process for a first-time freshman requires prospective students to submit an application, with a $50 application fee. The process also requires applicants to submit an official high school transcript, along with SAT or ACT test scores.
If accepted, students will need to apply for financial aid and housing and register for new student orientation. Entering freshmen who are considered daytime undergraduates with less than 48 credit hours are required to live on campus unless they meet exemption criteria.
Tuition & Financial Aid
As a private higher-learning institution, tuition costs are not dependent on state residency. For the 2012 -2013 academic year, undergraduate tuition is $23,850 for the full-time day program. Students in the evening and online programs can expect to pay $645 per credit hour. Additional costs to consider are room and board, incidentals, and transportation.
Nova Southeastern University students can choose from such financial aid options as grants, scholarships, work-study programs, and student loans. Several institutional scholarships are available, including awards for students in nursing, education, and business schools.
