Essential Information

Online 3D design courses are offered at many colleges and universities, most commonly at private, for-profit online schools. Some aspects of 3D design courses and training require hands-on learning in labs or studios, so online programs aren't especially common. Hybrid programs are available, however, that allow students to take some courses online, while still completing on-campus components. Online 3D design courses can lead to a variety of undergraduate and graduate degrees, diplomas and certificates, including a Bachelor of Science in Game Art and Design, a Multimedia Studies Certificate or a Master of Fine Arts with a 3D modeling track.

Career opportunities for graduates include 3D modeler, character animator, multimedia instructional designer, graphic programmer, game artist and designer and layout artist. The advent of digital 3D design in most television commercials has also developed new job opportunities as digital ad designers.

Online Requirements

Students may be required to purchase specific software, such as Microsoft Office Suite and the most current version of Adobe Creative Suite.
