Paramedic to RN Courses and Classes Overview
Paramedic to registered nurse courses provide additional training for paramedics who are interested in becoming nurses. These courses are usually part of an associate's degree program in nursing and are available at many colleges that offer undergraduate nursing programs.
Quite a few colleges offer paramedic to RN bridge programs. Curriculum usually takes about two years to complete and culminates in an associate's degree, though some colleges also offer a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, which might take longer to complete, depending on the students' educational status.

Overview of Paramedic to RN Transition Course
Students explore the concepts and practices behind the transition from paramedic to registered nursing careers. This course augments and the previous training and prepares students for the registered nursing program. Students participate in classroom and laboratory work, and learn fundamental nursing skills and processes. Other topics covered include medication administration, basic mental healthcare and elderly care.
Adult Nursing Course
Students explore the role of nursing in maintaining and promoting the health of patients in an acute care facility as part of this course. Challenges related to neurological, musculoskeletal, gastrointestinal and reproductive issues are discussed. Students gain experience in medical surgery nursing. They also learn the various roles performed by professionals in a healthcare setting.
Human Physiology and Anatomy Course
This course reviews the function and structure of the human body. Students examine the nervous, skeletal and muscular systems and explore the composition of cells and tissues. Also discussed are the immune, excretory, circulatory, reproductive and digestive systems.
Child and Family Nursing Course
This course introduces students to maternity and pediatric nursing. Students learn techniques used to provide a family centered approach toward healthcare. Course participants review common issues and problems relating to childbearing.
Nursing and Behavioral Health Course
In this class, students examine chronic and acute behavioral health problems and the techniques used to address them. Students learn the nurses' role in managing care for mental health patients. An emphasis is placed on maintaining and restoring mental health.
Nursing and the Elderly Course
Elderly care and the well being of older patients are emphasized in this course. Students explore the practice of community-based nursing. They study the concepts involved in promoting health for the elderly.
