Plymouth, Minnesota, is a fast-growing city located ten miles northwest of downtown Minneapolis. Plymouth's population is 73,987, based on 2013 U.S. census estimates, up from 70,576 in 2010. Plymouth's proximity to the Twin Cities, its many lakes and housing options attracts both individuals and businesses. Plymouth covers approximately 36 square miles and has a multitude of highways running through its center and along the eastern and western periphery, providing easy access to the Twin Cities and suburban areas.
The weather in Plymouth is cold in the winter and mild in the summer. The city has an extensive park and trail system, open spaces and plenty of recreational activities for residents.
According to the City of Plymouth's website, there are more than 50,000 jobs within the city. The main industries for employed residents are the healthcare, social services and education industry, and professional, scientific and management industry, followed closely by manufacturing and real estate and finance.
Most employed residents, 54.9% as of 2008-2012 census data, worked in management jobs, while nearly a quarter of the population were employed in sales or office positions.
The Minnesota School of Business, a proprietary institution, has a campus in Plymouth as does the Minnesota School of Cosmetology. Outside the city limits, residents can find about 76 colleges and schools within 20 miles.
The University of Minnesota-Twin Cities is just ten miles away. It offers graduate and undergraduate programs to almost 52,000 students, making it the largest school in the area. Augsburg College is also ten miles from Plymouth. It was ranked 26th among regional universities in the Midwest by U.S. News & World Report in 2014. University of St Thomas Metropolitan State University, St Catherine University and Hamline University are also nearby.
Several 2-year schools are found in this area, including Minneapolis Community and Technical College, Anoka-Ramsey Community College and Normandale Community College. The area is also home to a few technical colleges, two seminaries and the Minneapolis College of Art and Design.
