About Saint Joseph's University
Saint Joseph's University (SJU) is a private university located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Situated on 105 acres, this university was founded by the Jesuit order in 1851 and is still affiliated with the Catholic Church. SJU has received recognition from both U.S. New & World Report and the Princeton Review.
Academics
Between the traditional undergraduate, adult learning and graduate programs, SJU offers 201 academic programs. The school's non-traditional learning program offers certificate, bachelor's degree, and associate's degree programs. Its online program offers bachelor's and master's degree programs as well as non-traditional and graduate certificate programs. SJU's business school was named by the Princeton Review as one of their 'Best 290 Business Schools.'
SJU has an honors program with special classes and benefits like lectures and concerts for the program's participants. The campus has seventeen centers and institutes, including a center for autism education, an institute for Jewish-Catholic relations, a center for anti-violence and a center for international programs that runs the school's study abroad program.
Admissions
Applicants to SJU can use the Common Application, apply via the Saint Joseph's system online or mail in an application. Applicants must send their high school transcripts, SAT/ACT scores, a letter of recommendation and an essay. Students using the Common Application will have to submit a supplemental form. Unlike undergraduate admissions, admission to both the adult learning program and the graduate program is done on a rolling basis, with applications for the non-traditional program accepted until classes start and applications for the graduate programs accepted year-round.
Tuition & Financial Aid
The full-time undergraduate tuition for the 2012-2013 school year was $37,670. That same year, residence hall fees ranged from $7,960 - $10,590 and the basic meal plan was $4,694. Other fees are assessed based on a student's residency status and course selections.
Students at SJU can apply for federal loans, grants and work-studies. Pennsylvania residents can apply for grants from the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency and SJU itself. This university also has a variety of scholarship programs, some based upon academic merit and some based upon specific criteria, such attending a Jesuit high school. The school offers several payment plans for students wishing to pay their balance in multiple installments.
