About Seattle University

Originally founded in 1891, Seattle University is one of only 28 Jesuit Catholic colleges located in the U.S. today. The university serves students via its 50-acre campus located in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood. Currently, Seattle University serves over 7,700 students annually and has an alumni network of 67,000 individuals located throughout the U.S. and the world.

Academics

Seattle University offers around 80 undergraduate degree options, over 35 graduate degree options and over 20 certificate programs through its eight colleges and schools. Students have the opportunity to participate in special learning opportunities as well, including ROTC (Army, Navy, Air Force) and study abroad options. Nursing students have access to a 20,000-square foot health sciences lab for hands-on learning opportunities.

Around 35% of all undergraduate students (including most freshmen) reside within the university's four residence halls and three on- and off-campus apartment living communities for upperclassmen. On-campus residence hall housing is guaranteed for the first two years. The school hosts some themed learning communities in its residence halls, focusing on concepts like diversity and social change, faith and the humanities, leadership and social justice. Students have a wide range of activities available to them, including over 120 student clubs and organizations, intramural sports, an on-campus church, an arts center, and a 64,000-square foot student center. The school also competes athletically at the NCAA Division I level.

Admissions

Individuals who apply to Seattle University are evaluated based on a number of factors, including prior academic achievement, overall GPA and SAT/ACT scores. The application process, including payment of a $50 application fee, must be completed no later than January 15 for Fall quarter admission in that same year. Those who want to apply for early admission must have their application materials submitted by November 15 of the year prior to the Fall they want to attend. Applicants may check their admission status through the university website. The school also considers freshman applications for the Winter quarter (due November 1), Spring quarter (due February 20) and Summer quarter (due May 15).

Of the more than 4,600 undergraduate students that attended Seattle University during the Fall 2011 quarter, around 95% did so on a full-time basis; roughly 60% of them were female. About 40% of freshmen were Washington State residents.
