San Diego State University

San Diego State University was founded in 1897 and is home to more than 35,000 students at the undergraduate and graduate levels as of 2011, making it the largest university in San Diego. Accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business since 1963, the College of Business Administration hosts the Charles W. Lamden School of Accountancy - the first such school in California and first to become accredited in nationwide. Its Department of Finance is home to over 800 undergraduate and graduate students each term. Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Finance Major

The finance major may be preferable for students interested in entering the business world with a solid understanding of financial strategies. Coursework can include subjects like investment, international business, market trends and financial resources. Students may also complete a business internship for credit.

Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Financial Services Major

Students interested in becoming insurance agents or stockbrokers may prefer this financial services major, which relates to specific fields in the business world like banking, insurance and financial planning. Subjects of study include banking, real estate and securities; required subjects are economics, accounting and information systems. Those who complete this program are qualified to take the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) Board of Standards examination to become a CFP.

Master of Business Administration, Finance Specialization

Core courses discuss financial reporting, financial management, economics and statistical management. Students are allowed to design a great deal of their curriculum by selecting a concentration area in subjects like general finance, nonprofit organizations, brokerage companies or financial institutions. They are encouraged to complete courses in investment, financial analysis, financial management and taxation.

Master of Science in Business Administration, Finance Concentration

This program prepares students for administrative positions in a variety of financial institutions. To enroll in this program, applicants must have completed courses like business law, economics, statistics and financial management. Coursework includes world economics, portfolio management, risk management and international business.

Master of Science in Business Administration, Financial and Tax Planning Concentration

While the BSBA with a financial services major can prepare students to become a CFP, it is recommended that they complete the MSBA with a financial and tax planning concentration in order to become a professional CFP. Required courses include insurance management, federal taxes and employee benefits, as well as seminars in estate planning and investment. Electives can include tax planning, risk management, California taxation, financial reporting and world economics.
