1. College of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas
The College of Southern Nevada calls itself the largest and most diverse higher education establishment in the state. Students can pursue an Associate of Applied Science in Construction Technology with a carpentry emphasis at the College of Southern Nevada. Students learn about the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's rules and regulations for carpentry, as well as the Industrial Residential Code. By the end of the program, graduates can read blueprints, know different lumber types and utilize a variety of tools, including power, hand, and pneumatic tools.
2. American River College in Sacramento, CA
With approval from the State of California Department of Apprenticeship Standards, American River College offers two programs for carpenters, including an Associate in Arts and a Certificate in Carpenter Apprenticeship. These programs train students in estimation, building codes, construction processes, safety procedures, and blueprint reading. Students cover such topics as roof and structural framing, concrete pre-casting and pre-stressing, interior and exterior finish, floor foundation, and welding in their classes. They get field experience by working alongside professional carpenters.
