Child psychologist study the development of children from birth to adulthood. A child psychology program applies biological, genetic, cognitive, lingual, perceptive and social behavior to the diagnosis and treatment of children with mental disorders. 1. University of Minnesota - Twin Cities
In 1925, the Institute of Child Development at the University of Minnesota (U of M) pioneered the study of child psychology and development in the United States. The school offers a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Child Psychology with a strong research focus. Students can specialize in child development areas such as cognitive, language, perception, social and personality development, as well as neuroscience and psychobiology. Those pursuing a doctoral degree in clinical child psychology may focus on child developmental psychopathology.

The Clinical Child Psychology Training Program at the University of Kansas (KU) offers a Ph.D. in Clinical Child Psychology. The program coursework draws from the applied behavioral science and psychology departments. Its focus is research and teaching students how to clinically evaluate and treat children and adolescents.
