The school offers a doctor of veterinary medicine (DVM) degree program, a DVM/Ph.D. dual degree program and a variety of graduate-level research programs in a variety of animal medicine fields such as neuroscience, reproduction and genetics.

Cornell's DVM programs are a combination of coursework and clinical practice. Students begin by focusing on the animal body in areas such as anatomy, neurology, and biology. They study how disease can not only affect individual animals, but animal and human populations. Students also gain hands-on experience working with a variety of animals in the school's on-campus clinics. Students entering the D.V.M./Ph.D. program and the school's graduate research programs can specialize in a variety of concentrations.

2. University of Florida in Gainesville

The University of Florida is listed as 53rd on U.S. News and World Report's 2011 list of top national universities in America. The university's College of Veterinary Medicine offers a variety of veterinary medicine programs including a DVM, a dual degree with a doctor of veterinary medicine and a master's in public health (DVM/MPH), forensic toxicology and a wide variety of graduate programs.

The DVM program is four years in length and supplies students with knowledge in general veterinary sciences and comparative medicine, in addition to hands-on clinical practice.
