Graphic Design and Multimedia Programs

Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Electronic Media Arts and Design (eMAD)

Based in liberal arts, this program requires students to choose a second major or a minor. B.A. students aren't required to submit a portfolio for admission but may do so if they wish to compete for art scholarships. In addition to foundation courses in art history, drawing and design, students take 32 credits of eMAD electives such as typography, digital video and interactive design. The Leo Block Digital Art Student Studio is open to students 24 hours a day for work on new media projects.

Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Electronic Media Arts and Design

Portfolio submission is required for admission to the BFA program, which doesn't require a minor or a second major. It prepares students to pursue a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) or work as a new media artist. Art history, studio and eMAD courses make up the curriculum, which culminates in a senior year group exhibition. Courses in the eMAD program include identity and branding, Internet art and an electronic media arts internship with a local business.

Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Electronic Media Arts and Design

Through this 3-year program, students learn both the theory and practical skills needed to work as electronic media artists. In addition to formal critique sessions, graduate students engage in critical theory-based seminars on topics that have included the body and technology, time-based media and interactivity. They submit a proposal for a thesis project the first year. The thesis project includes a written paper, an oral defense and a public, off-site exhibition.
