1. Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is a private science and technology school founded in 1865. 2. California Institute of Technology in Pasadena

The California Institute of Technology, or Caltech, is a small private research university located near Los Angeles. Well known for its academics, the school has had 31 recipients of the Nobel Prize to date. U.S. News & World Report ranked Caltech fourth among national universities in 2010 and the school's Division of Engineering & Applied Science fifth among the best national engineering schools in 2011.

The Electrical Engineering Department emphasizes multi-disciplinary study and has strong ties to other departments, such as the Bioengineering, Applied Physics, and Computer Science departments.
