Berklee College of Music was included in the U.S. News & World Report 2011 Best Colleges list in the arts category and is known for its focus on teaching contemporary music. Berklee College of Music offers bachelor's degree programs and professional diplomas in 12 concentrations, including music production and engineering. The music production and engineering concentration places emphasis on working with contemporary music recordings. In addition to ear training and music theory, students are introduced to composition, conducting, and music technologies. They also complete performance credits.

2. University of Hartford in Hartford, Connecticut

The University of Hartford was ranked 183 of national universities in the U.S. News & World Report 2011 Best Colleges list. Within the university's Hartt School, students can pursue a Bachelor of Music in Music Production and Technology. Students study ear training, electronics fundamentals, music theory, and arts management and production. Additionally, students are expected to complete instrumental or vocal studies coursework.
