1. University of Washington - Seattle Campus
The School of Medicine at University of Washington (UW) in Seattle was started in 1946 and has as its mission to train doctors to work in rural and underserved communities. U.S. News &World Report ranked UW-Seattle the best medical program in primary care in 2010. During the 3rd and 4th years of the M.D. program students intern in nine medical specialties, including family and internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, surgery, emergency medicine, chronic care, neurology and psychiatry.
Students in the resident program spend the majority of their practicum hours at the UW Medical Center in Seattle, ranked 12th among America's Best Hospitals and 5th among cancer hospitals by U.S. News & World Report for 2011. Upon completion of a residency program, most students select a fellowship program and specialize in areas such as neuroradiology, pediatric radiology, oncology radiation, cardiac imaging and musculoskeletal radiology.

2. University of California - San Francisco
The University of California - San Francisco (UCSF) offers graduate-level education in the health professions and is located in downtown San Francisco. In the M.D. program, students rotate among 11 specialties, including anesthesia, family medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, psychology and neurology, general surgery, neurosurgery, ophthalmological surgery, orthopedic surgery, urological surgery and otological surgery. Coursework in diagnostic imaging is also available as an elective. U.S. News & World Report ranked UCSF 5th among the best medical primary care programs in 2010.
UCSF has two residency program options for those specializing in radiology. The diagnostic radiology program centers on general radiology, while the study of nuclear medicine, a radiology subspecialty, covers its use in diagnosing and treating cancers. The residency program for radiology is highly selective; residents work at the UCSF Medical Center, which was named the 7th best hospital in America by U.S. News & World Report for 2011.
