The McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas in Austin, TX, offers degree programs for business students and professionals. University of Texas at Austin
The University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin) was founded in 1883, with two departments and 221 students. In 2010, the university had grown to include 17 schools and colleges, including the McCombs School of Business. U.S. News and World Report ranked the university 45th in the nation. The university is accredited through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools' Commission on Colleges.
The McCombs School of Business is composed of six departments. In 2012, U.S. News and World Report ranked the undergraduate programs seventh in the nation and the graduate business program 17thin the nation. In 2011, Bloomberg Businessweek ranked McCombs 17th among the best undergraduate programs in the U.S. Students can take advantage of undergraduate and graduate student organizations, like the Alpha Kappa Psi fraternity and Beta Alpha Psi honor society. McCombs is home to several business research and policy centers, including the AIM Investment Center and the Center for Energy Finance Education and Research.
Business Administration Programs
Bachelor of Business Administration
The BBA program offers ten majors, including accounting, finance, management, international business and supply chain management. In addition to general business courses, specific required courses depend on a student's chosen major. Some courses may include financial accounting, managerial accounting, consulting, global marketing, business communication and investments.
Full-Time Master of Business Administration
In just two years of full-time study, students can complete the MBA program. In the first year, students complete courses in financial, strategic, marketing and operations management. The second year of the program is devoted to electives, which can include courses from other schools at UT Austin. Students can choose their electives from topics like occupational fraud, auditing, corporate finance and branding. Non-business electives can include courses in public affairs, law or geosciences. Optional concentrations are available in accounting, finance, management, marketing and policy, among others. Between the first and second years, students participate in an internship.
Evening Master of Business Administration
This 33-month program is designed for working executives and meets two nights each week, for three hours per session. The program requires completion of 48 credit hours. Each year, students attend a week-long residency in Austin, covering business fundamentals, team building and advocacy. The second year includes an international trip in a required global management course.
Executive Master of Business Administration
This program is geared toward working individuals and courses are held every other weekend. Several classes are structured to last half a semester throughout a student's academic career. For elective courses, students must earn 3-6 credits and can choose from specialized course work, a professional report or a seminar in Washington, D.C., with a special study course. Students work in study groups and attend three week-long executive seminars at UT Austin and a final executive seminar in an international location.
