National University is a private, not-for-profit school headquartered in La Jolla, California, just nine miles outside of San Diego. The school also has campuses spread throughout California and offers several of its programs online. It has a student population of 15,000 individuals per year, making it the second-largest private, non-profit school in the state.

The degree programs at National University are offered within five academic schools and one college, covering the subject areas of business, education, engineering, health sciences, media, and letters and sciences. Undergraduate Certificate in Basic Human Resource Management

Students who aspire to gain supervisory positions in the field of HR management, but who do not want to enroll in an entire degree program, might want to consider the certificate program in HR management at National University. The program is designed to provide students with the most fundamental and basic skills they will need to have to effectively oversee the operations of an HR department. The four courses in the 18-credit program cover employee selection, employee retention, employee assessment, compensation issues, recruitment and legal compliance.

Master of Arts in Human Resource Management

This graduate program is designed to provide working professionals with the enhanced skills and understanding necessary to join the senior management or upper-level positions available within an HR department. Students are expected to learn about the concepts and theories behind staffing, recruiting and training procedures. Courses also cover performance improvement tactics, compensation issues, office technology and labor relations. The curriculum is geared towards those students who already have a solid understanding of how to work in an office environment. Students can choose to specialize in particular tracks such as organizational development and chain management, and organizational leadership. All students are required to complete a thesis or final project course.
