California State University - Stanislaus

Founded in 1957, California State University - Stanislaus (CSU-S) is located on a 228-acre campus and is one of 23 schools in the California State University system. It offers over 100 majors, minors and concentrations in a wide variety of fields. In 2011, U.S. News & World Report ranked CSU-S 53rd of all schools in the western region and 17th of all the nation's public schools.

The College of Natural Sciences at CSU-S offers undergraduate and graduate programs in chemistry, computer science, geology, mathematics and physics. Bachelor of Science in Computer Science

Students complete 51 units of general education requirements and take 34 units of upper division classes. A student must complete a departmental writing proficiency screening test to demonstrate competency in writing skills. The program focuses on problem-solving skills, mathematics, machine hardware, data systems and algorithms. Required courses include data structures, computer organization, algorithms, programming languages, operating systems, compiler theory and information theory. Students participate in seminars on computer science.

Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems

A student in this programs is required to complete a 2-semester course in either Visual Basic or Java programming. Students complete a writing proficiency screening test to demonstrate writing skills. The program emphasizes computer information systems, business functions and organizations. Students learn to design, implement and analyze computer information systems. Prerequisites to the major include accounting, law, ethics, computer information systems and Java programming. Core courses include Visual Basic programming, systems administration, business finance, database management systems, operations management and management science.
