1. Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, FL
This private university is a small aeronautics school that offers degrees in aerospace engineering, aeronautics and aviation to over 4,000 students every year. Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degrees are offered in several related fields including aeronautical science, aeronautical systems maintenance, aviation maintenance science and aerospace engineering. Master of Science (M.S.) degrees in aerospace engineering and aeronautics are offered, and a Master of Aerospace Engineering (MAE) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Aviation Management are also available. In addition, a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Aviation is offered to students.
2. United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO
The United States Air Force Academy is a military academy that also offers a college education to its students. There is a core curriculum of general humanities, science and engineering courses with an aerospace-based focus of study and military training. The school offers a B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering that is obtained through completion of a variety of courses including aerothermodynamics, fluid dynamics and aircraft performance. The Academy also features the Aeronautics Research Center that allows cadets to participate in research projects that are underway. Another feature of the Academy is the Modeling and Simulation Research Center.
3. California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in Pasadena, CA
Caltech is a reputable engineering and technology school in southern California that has received high rankings from U.S. News and World Report; in 2011, it was ranked number seven in the National Universities rankings. In addition, it was ranked number one in the nation for aerospace and aeronautics graduate schools and number five for aerospace and aeronautics undergraduate schools in 2010. Caltech's Graduate Aerospace Laboratories offers M.S. degrees in aerospace engineering and aeronautics, as well as an aeronautical engineer degree and a Ph.D. in Aeronautics. There is no specific bachelor's degree in aeronautics or aerospace, but a minor in aerospace is offered. There is also a dual master's degree program offered in cooperation with Ecole Polytechnique in France.
