1. Cornell University in Ithaca, NY
Cornell University is an Ivy League school that U.S. News & World Report ranked 15th among national universities in 2011. Additionally, USN&WR ranked the university 11th among schools that offer graduate degrees in the biological sciences for 2010.
Biological and biomedical science programs are available through various schools in the university, including the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, College of Engineering, College of Human Ecology and College of Veterinary Medicine. Courses are also offered through the Weill Medical College in New York City as part of Cornell's biological sciences curricula. Examples of subjects taught include evolutionary biology, entomology, microbiology and neurobiology.
2. University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center - Dallas
In 2010, U.S. News & World Report ranked the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at this university and medical center 20th among colleges with graduate biological sciences programs. As a place for education and patient care, the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center offers Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programs in several fields. These include chemical, cancer or integrative biology, molecular biophysics, neuroscience and biomedical engineering. The graduate school's Division of Applied Science also offers a unique master's degree program in biomedical communications.
3. University of Washington in Seattle
The University of Washington (UW) in Seattle ranked 42nd among national universities by U.S. News & World Report in 2011. In 2010, USN&WR also ranked UW 15th among schools with graduate programs in the biological sciences. The university's Department of Biology is a research-driven department that offers degrees at all levels, including a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in General Biology or Plant Biology, Master of Science (M.S.) in Biology for Teachers and specialized Ph.D. Master's and doctoral programs in biomedical and health informatics are available through UW's Department of Medical Education and Biomedical Informatics.
