1. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, MA
According to U.S. News & World Report, MIT's information system management program ranked number one in the country for 2011. In the same year, it also placed first on The Princeton Review's list of schools where students spend the most time studying.
The MIT Sloan School of Management offers a number of degrees in business, including a Master of Science (M.S.) in Management Studies. Areas of concentration include management science, through which graduate students can pursue coursework in information technology. Program resources include the Center for Information Systems Research. In the center, students conduct field research on information technology and its relation to management processes.
2. Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA
Carnegie Mellon is a private university that U.S. News & World Report ranked 23rd among national universities for 2011. The School of Information Systems and Management, housed within the H. John Heinz III College, was ranked second by U.S. News & World Report in 2011. Program offerings include a unique Master of Information Systems Management (MISM) with an accelerated option that can be completed in one calendar year. This is an interdepartmental course of study that includes topics in computer science, business and public policy.
3. University of Texas at Austin
The University of Texas at Austin (UT) offers an undergraduate information systems management program that placed third in the nation for 2011, as designated by U.S. News & World Report. Additionally, Bloomberg Businessweek ranked the university's McCombs School of Business among the top 20 undergraduate business schools and the top 25 graduate business schools in the country for the same year. The school's Department of Information, Risk and Operations Management (IROM) offers a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Management Information Systems. The program includes courses in data management, data communications and system development; students also complete an internship.
