1. Washington University in St. Louis, MO
Founded in 1853, Washington University is a private institution that boasts 22 Nobel laureates and an annual student enrollment of 14,000 in 2010. In 2011, Washington University was ranked 13th among national universities by US News & World Report.
The Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Digital Imaging and Photography. The program gives students the opportunity to explore various forms of photography, including digital, large format and film. Students gain hands-on experience through extensive studio experiences and independent research.
2. New York University in New York, NY
New York University is the largest private, non-profit university in the United States, as well as a distinguished member of the Association of American Universities. U.S. News & World Report ranked New York University 33rd among national universities in 2011.
New York University's Tisch School of the Arts offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography and Imaging. Students have access to the Photography & Imaging Labs, which are comprised of 11 darkrooms and two digital labs, as well as two shooting studios. In addition to study abroad opportunities, students can take part in several open arts and summer programs, such as COmmunity COllaborations.
3. Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA
In 2010, U.S. News & World Report ranked the Drexel University second among Up and Coming Schools. The university has a cooperative education program, which allows students to work in internships for more than 1,200 employers worldwide for 6-month intervals.
The Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design offers a Bachelor of Science in Photography. The hands-on curriculum explores courses in photographic illustration, photojournalism, digital imaging and traditional photography. Students are required to complete an individualized student thesis project.
