1. Hamline University in St. Paul, MN

Hamline University, founded in 1854, is a private university that offers a pre-law curriculum, as well as a law school. In 2011, Hamline University was ranked 51st on U.S. News and World Report's list for schools with the best part-time law degree programs.

The legal studies department offers a curriculum tailored to pre-law students. The curriculum includes studies in legal research, logic and American legal systems. The university also offers law degrees through the School of Law. The types of law degrees given at Hamline are J.D., LL.M., certificates and dual degrees. Students can choose to major in health law, international law or criminal law.

2. New York University in New York, NY

New York University is a private institution located in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of New York. This university first came into existence in 1831. On U.S. News and World Report's 2011 list for best law schools, New York University ranked sixth.

The New York University offers the Barbara and Evan Chesler Pre-law Program through the College of Arts and Sciences. The program places students with a pre-law advisor, which allows them to tailor their education towards their graduate interests. Additionally, New York University's School of Law offers graduate degree programs in business law, tax law and constitutional law. A layering program can also be taken by students, which trains them to become top-notch lawyers ready for the practice of legal study and courtroom litigation.

3. Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY

Hofstra University, established in 1970, is best known for its law school. Hofstra Law School was ranked 84th on U.S. News and World Report's 2011 list of best law schools in the nation.

The pre-professional studies program offers a curriculum in pre-law. The curriculum provides students with a diverse education in history, political science, public speaking and legal studies. The Hofstra Law School is home to J.D. and LL.M. degree programs. Students will learn the basics of law and advanced aspects of law affected by today's technology and other factors.
