School Overview

Three of the top schools for quality control programs include Ferris State University and Eastern Michigan University, both of which have ranked high on the U.S. News & World Report list of top public schools. Ferris State University offers a bachelor's degree in quality engineering technology. Students at Eastern Michigan University can earn a master's degree in quality management. Programs can also be found at California State University in Dominguez Hills, the only one of the three schools to offer both an undergraduate and graduate degree in quality assurance.

Top U.S. Schools with Quality Control Programs

1. Ferris State University in Big Rapids, MI

Ferris State University (FSU) ranked 22nd on U.S. News & World Report's list of top public schools in 2012. The College of Engineering Technology (CET), the second-largest school of this type in the U.S., offers a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Quality Engineering Technology (QET). The program was created with the help of members of the American Society for Quality (ASQ). Admission requirements include completion of a 2-year manufacturing technology program at FSU or 60 credits in technical and general education.

2. Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, MI

Eastern Michigan University (EMU) ranked 28th among public schools by U.S. News & World Report in 2012. It was also named a top Midwestern college by The Princeton Review for the same year. EMU offers a Master of Science (M.S.) in Quality Management that prepares graduates for the Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Certified Quality Manager (CQM) credentials, available from ASQ. Out-of-state students enrolled in the online M.S. program pay Michigan tuition rates.

3. California State University - Dominguez Hills in Carson, CA

California State University in Dominguez Hills made the President's Higher Education Community Service with Distinction Honor Roll for 2009-10. The university offers both a B.S. and M.S. in Quality Assurance, available both on campus and online. The B.S. program is designed for students who have completed most of their general education requirements; it also includes a measurement sciences option with an emphasis on technical quality and metrics. Unique to the university is the opportunity for students to participate in faculty research efforts.
