Accounting Programs

Bachelor of Science in Accountancy

The bachelor's degree program in accounting at CSUN provides students with a conceptual and practical understanding of accounting theory and professional standards within the accounting industry. Because CSUN's accounting program is highly competitive, aspiring accounting students must first enroll in the pre-accountancy major; only those who successfully complete the pre-accountancy major and have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 may be accepted to the accountancy program. Required coursework for the accountancy major includes financial accounting, taxation, cost analysis, auditing and profit management.

Master of Science in Accountancy

This master's program teaches students communication and research skills, the technical aspects of accounting and professional ethics. Designed for working professionals, this 1-year program can be completed entirely on nights and weekends. The program is designed for students who have a bachelor's degree in accounting and who wish to obtain a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation or who intend on pursuing a doctoral degree in accounting. Prospective students who do not hold a bachelor's degree in accounting must complete additional business and accounting prerequisites before becoming eligible for the program.

The master's in accountancy program requires 30 credits of coursework to complete. Students can focus on either information systems or professional accountancy. Required courses cover auditing, professional ethics, analysis of financial statements, cost accounting and information systems for accounting. Aside from required courses, students must take three elective courses from their area of concentration.
